2018 Volunteer of the Year

Butch Tyree
Daleville, Va.

Walking Scorer

Butch Tyree, a native of Daleville, Va., has volunteered in seven of the eight Greenbrier Classic/A Military Tribute tournaments.  He recently retired after 30 years as a mathematics teacher, athletic director and coach at Northside High School in Roanoke, Va.  He is now a real estate agent in the Roanoke area.

"It is a true honor and privilege, and I am humbled to be selected as the Volunteer of the Year for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier," said Tyree.  "I would like to give sincere thanks to all who make the tournament possible, thereby allowing me the opportunity to be part of such an exciting and memorable event.  Without the entire tournament staff, as well as the exemplary Greenbrier employees, the wonderful event would not be possible."

Tyree has served on a number of different committees during his seven years as a volunteer, but he said he can't pick a favorite.  His family comes each year and pulls a camper into the campgrounds at the State Fair of West Virginia.  The anticipation for the next year begins as soon as the tournament is complete.
